I’ve always said that there was no way in hell that I’d ever knit with teeny tiny needles. Well, I should’ve known better than to say “never.”
As if my friends don’t already think that I teeter on the thin line of knitting and creative sanity, my friend DLotter planted an evil idea into my head. She suggested that our knitting group do a mini-knits swap for our holiday party. At first, I wasn’t going to participate, but then I thought of the tiny sample needles I got at last year’s TNNA trade show: a set of US #000 (1.5mm) circulars.
I couldn’t find any yarns in the right size, so I split a 3-ply fingering weight yarn and used the split yarn to knit a tiny hat.
I sort of made up the pattern as I went along, adding a stripe and a tiny pom-pom at the top. I made the pom-pom using a cut-up straw.
I brought my mini to my Monday night group before the holiday party to show off, and Amanda made it an accessory to her hand puppet.
I had every intention of knitting a second mini for the actual exchange. That’s when I knew I was really in the darkside. However, I still haven’t finished it, so I used the hat in the mini exchange. I can’t decide whether this second mini wants to be a sweater, a hoodie or a vest.
That’s so cute!
you are crazy! but that’s why i love you 🙂
Wow, cute hat! That does look like it takes way too much patience, however.
And now, I believe I am officially, the only person who will not knit with yarn lower than a 4 weight or needles smaller than size 5. It is a lonely road but I shall walk it bravely!
At least when you went over to the dark side, you did for fun with your friends!
[…] highlights of the evening was our mini knits white elephant swap (the swap that had me cross to the darkside). There were many cute mini knits and many “steals.” Poor Chia had the misfortune […]
TRUST ME, I WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!What a nightmare and you see how my tiny sweater turned out!!!!! How embarassing! Mary was so kind to keep it once she aquired it in the “gift swap”! What a TROOPER!!!!
Hugs
Barbara – yours was absolutely darling!! Your reaction to your own mini was the funniest though. I hope your eye is getting better.
It’s actually a cool and useful piece of info. I’m glad that you just shared this helpful information with us.
Please stay us up to date like this. Thanks for sharing.
Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book
in it or something. I think that you can do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but instead of that, this is great blog.
A great read. I will definitely be back.
